Background: Lysis of adhesions though almost is routinely done in surgery, is neither routine nor benign procedures. It is fraught with injury to structures, intestines, infected wounds and fistula formation, with or without sepsis.
Methods: A video clip describing normal saline injection technique in tissue layers to facilitate laparoscopic lysis of adhesions in laparoscopic ventral hernia repair.
Results: The video describes normal saline injection technique in tissue planes to facilitate laparoscopic lysis of adhesions in complex ventral hernia with extensive adhesions between intestines and abdominal wall, hence making identification and management of these adhesions safe. Furthermore, it helps identifying adhesions that can be safely done and those that may be impossible to do safely.
Conclusion: The use of normal saline injection in tissue planes facilitate easier, safer and more effective way of tissue dissection in laparoscopic and open surgery.
