Brown Surgery is seeking a minimally invasive bariatric and general surgeon to lead a low acuity bariatric and robotic general surgery program at Newport Hospital.
Minimum requirements include: board certification or eligibility in General Surgery and specialty training in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery; a strong clinical background in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Robotic Surgery, and Endoscopy; commitment to scholarly participation in the research and educational programs of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Faculty appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, contingent upon qualifications.
The position is hospital-based, and the applicant will be expected to participate in patient care activities, teaching of medical students and training of general surgery residents.
Teaching
Participation as a preceptor in the Core Clerkship in Surgery and the clinical electives for medical students enrolled at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University as well as the teaching programs of the Department of Surgery at Rhode Island Hospital is possible, which includes residents in General Surgery and fellows in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Pediatric Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. Participation in interdisciplinary teaching programs with other divisions and departments within the hospital and the medical school.
Research
Pursue basic, translational or clinical research programs pertaining to the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery. Possible interest in surgical innovation / emerging therapies
Patient Care
Participate in the clinical care of General Surgery patients, including the inpatient service and the outpatient clinics. Develop and direct a low acuity Bariatric Center of Excellence. Share call coverage and consultative services with existing General Surgery staff.
Service Responsibilities
Maintain a positive working relationship in all activities of the Division of General Surgery within the Department of Surgery and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. This includes attending Faculty and Staff meetings, serving on Medical School, Hospital, and Department committees, and working with faculty, the Division Chief and the Chair of Surgery of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University to facilitate the achievements of the department and the division.
