
Course Information
SAGES developed the program with support from the American College of Surgeons for future leaders in surgery.
The course is intended for surgeons just starting in a leadership role or for surgeons envisioning a future leadership role.
The curriculum invites surgical leaders to reflect and continue to develop their leadership styles. This course provides learners with the skillset to successfully lead diverse, innovative, clinical and administrative teams and influence and negotiate for necessary systemic changes.
The program includes online modules though SAGES online web learning platform and will feature interactive content. In addition, there will be a private Facebook group for engaging discussions with fellow participants.
Several short surveys may be administered to better understand the impact of the course on leadership development. At the end of the course, participants will receive a Certificate for Fundamentals of Leadership Development.
Course Objectives
- Discuss key fundamental characteristics of a strong surgical leader
- Identify ways to provide equitable opportunities for surgical leadership development
- Describe and mitigate factors contributing to healthcare equity in surgical healthcare systems
- Effectively use negotiation and conflict mediation strategies to navigate leadership challenges

American Board of Surgery (ABS) Continuous Certification Program

and Self-Assessment requirements of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.
