DESCRIPTION:
- The award is designated for a surgeon who completed their residency and/or fellowship.
- This scholarship provides the recipient the opportunity to participate in a leadership program that will facilitate the development of their leadership, strategy, management and execution skills and understanding. The intent of the award is to optimize the awardee’s impact and capabilities to deliver sustainable results throughout their surgical career.
- The scholarship will enable the recipient to attend a five-day program that will expose them to expansive self-examination practices which may result in fruitful personal changes and to think about organizational development in new ways
- Past winners include: Brent Matthews, MD (2011); Daniel Jones, MD (2012); Paresh Shah, MD (2013); Dmitry Oleynikov, MD (2014); Danielle Walsh, MD (2015); Daniel Scott, MD (2016); Aurora Pryor, MD (2017); Dimitrios Stefanidis, MD (2018); Ross Goldberg, MD (2019); N/A (2020); Tammy Kindel, MD (2021); E. Matthew Ritter, MD (2022); Bethany Slater, MD (2023); John Romanelli, MD (2024)
AWARD REQUIREMENTS AND BENEFITS:
- Must be a SAGES Active or Candidate Member.
- Interested parties may self-nominate for this award.
- The winner will be chosen by the SAGES Awards Committee based on merit and their desire to attend the five-day program.
- The Applicant must submit the following with their application:
- One-page essay on why you wish to apply for this award/grant
- Current abbreviated CV
- The scholarship will provide up to $8,000 for expenses (i.e. room/board, transportation and the cost of the course) for the award winner to attend a leadership program at a Recommended Academic Institution (a list will be provided).
- The winner will receive:
- Complimentary registration for SAGES 2025
- 1 complimentary night in an official event hotel provided by the SAGES Foundation.
