DESCRIPTION:
- Established in 2017, and originally known as the Advocacy Summit Award, the purpose of this award is to promote individuals as leaders in advocacy and health policy.
- Applications are open to any active SAGES member currently serving on any SAGES committee.
- The Award winner will travel to and participate in The ACS Leadership & Advocacy Summit, which offers volunteer leaders and advocates comprehensive and specialized sessions focused on the tools needed to be an effective leader, followed by interactive advocacy training and coordinated visits to DC congressional leaders.
- Past winners include: Dana Telem, MD (2017); Marion C. Wilson Henry, MD (2018); Rohan A. Joseph, MD (2020)
AWARD REQUIREMENTS AND BENEFITS:
- Awardee must be an active SAGES member currently serving on any SAGES committee.
- Interested parties may self-nominate
- Recipient will be recommended for automatic assignment to the Advocacy & Health Policy Committee with an expectation of active participation.
- Recipient must be available to attend that year’s ACS Leadership & Advocacy Summit (usually in March or April.)
- Recipient will give a brief report of their experience at the following Fall’s Advocacy & Health Policy Committee meeting.
- The winner will receive complimentary registration for SAGES 2025.
- The award covers expenses (up to $2,500) for ACS Leadership & Advocacy Summit registration, travel, hotel and meals.
