SAGES Go Global Initiative

Over the years, SAGES has grown from a society of 50 members to a society of over 6,000 members worldwide.  Through its evolution, it has become what is currently considered one of the world's leading authoritative bodies for innovative technological surgical advances - specifically in minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery. In conjunction with industry, academia, and partnering surgical societies, SAGES strives to continually endorse both hands on and didactic training and guidelines for educating surgeons in the United States, and throughout the world, on minimally invasive and endoscopic surgical techniques. Now that SAGES is a mature society, we would like to give back to the worldwide surgical community.

Our Vision

To make basic laparoscopic and endoscopic available to all people of the world regardless of their financial circumstances.

Our Mission

To train committed local surgeons worldwide who care for those who have limited or no access to medical care to perform basic laparoscopic surgery and flexible endoscopic procedures.

Our Goals

  • Focus on high impact, high volume, low complexity laparoscopic procedures
  • Training the trainers
  • Complete didactics with focus on avoiding bile duct injuries
  • FLS-based skill acquisition
  • Emphasis on patient safety, universal protocol, and team training
  • Creating a core equipment and supply package for developing countries
  • Outcomes measurement using the SAGES database
