SAGES Joint Symposium at ACS

SAGES & SSAT & AHPBA invite you to join us for our 2006 Symposium during the ACS Clinical Congress: “Evidence-Based Approaches to Colorectal Cancer”

Wednesday, October 11, 2006
5:15-7:20 PM, followed by cocktail reception
Hyatt Regency
Regency CD Ballroom
Chicago, Illinois
During the ACS Clinical Congress

Symposium Organizers:

Mark P. Callery, MD, SAGES
David M. Mahvi, MD, SSAT
William R. Jarnagin, MD, AHPBA

Intended Audience:

The intended audience is General Surgeons from around the world who attend the ACS Clinical Congress, and who deal with all aspects of Colorectal Cancer, both early and late, localized and metastatic in their practice.

Description:

The attendees will be presented an evidence-based analysis of contemporary care of colorectal cancer. Topics will include both clinical and basic science updates for inflammatory bowel disease and colonic polyposis with emphasis as to how each may predispose to colon cancer. The oncologic efficacy of laparoscopic colectomy will be evaluated. Several technical aspects for open and minimally invasive colectomy will be illustrated. The multimodality treatment of hepatic colorectal cancer metastases will be evaluated to include neoadjuvant therapy, radiofrequency ablation and resection.

Objectives:

Attendees will obtain:

  1. Evidence-based updates on how to approach patients with polyposis and inflammatory bowel disease syndromes who may be at risk of developing colorectal cancer.
  2. Today's best technical details and evidence to support mesorectal excision, and transanal resection of low rectal disease.
  3. Video instruction as to the technical secrets to an effective and proper laparoscopic colectomy for colorectal cancer.
  4. Evidence-based rationale for the oncologic efficacy of MIS approaches to colorectal cancer.
  5. A challenge to consider what the future may hold for MIS colorectal cancer surgery.
  6. A detailed, evidence-based rationale for the treatment of colorectal cancer metastases to the liver.
